Clean Energy Conference 2017

SCROLL DOWN

Clean Energy Conference 2017

The Clean Energy Conference is a unique 2-day event which will blend seminars and hands on experiences for participants; the first of its kind in the Caribbean region.  The Clean Energy Conference takes place at an important time for Trinidad and Tobago, since for the first time we have both a renewable energy and emissions reduction target.

Meeting these targets is a major challenge, as the Trinidad & Tobago economy is highly dependent upon the oil, gas petrochemical sectors. Our electricity generation sector, based entirely on natural gas, is very different from any of our Caribbean neighbours.  The actions needed to increase the use of renewables and improve energy efficiency are therefore different to other countries in the region and consequently the policy measure to drive success are also different.

Trinidad and Tobago is the Caribbean’s leading producer of oil and gas as well as downstream petrochemicals. The sector is the largest contributors to carbon emissions in the entire region. It is therefore essential that the sector actively takes a leadership role in the promotion of clean energy generation and ensure that we are using energy resources as efficiently as possible to effectively manage our hydrocarbons and to minimize our contribution to climate change.
