The Clean Energy Conference is a unique 2-day event which will blend seminars and hands on experiences for participants; the first of its kind in the Caribbean region. The Clean Energy Conference takes place at an important time for Trinidad and Tobago. The country has recently ratified the Paris agreement and is now in a position to implement projects to reduce CO2 emissions and to bring renewables onstream.
The theme this year will be "Towards Implementation"
The Ministry of Energy has recently put out two expressions of interest for a waste to energy plant in the Beetham Landfill and one for utility scale renewable energy projects. While these are great first steps, the Clean Energy Conference will look critically at implementation of renewable energy and energy efficiency projects in Trinidad and Tobago and ask the question what would a developer want to see in T&T to be an attractive investment opportunity.
In 2017, the Clean Energy Conference the theme was Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy in a Hydrocarbon Economy and it featured a sold out audience, thirty speakers and 4 sponsors. During the conference, it was clearly shown that energy efficiency and renewable energy can have a direct benefit to the economy despite being hydrocarbon based.
This year we hope to continue to have thought provoking discussions toward realizing our international commitments and move toward a clean and sustainable energy mix in the future.
Trinidad and Tobago continues to be the Caribbean’s leading producer of oil and gas as well as downstream petrochemicals. Now is the time for the sector to takes a leadership role in the promotion of clean energy and become a true energy leader in CARICOM.
