The Energy Chamber of Trinidad & Tobago has noted the alarming rise in COVID-19 cases and the potential of the current case load to overwhelm the parallel healthcare system. We urge all of our members to take the current situation very seriously and to ensure that all workplace measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 are fully implemented and that their employees and contractors fully comply with all Ministry of Health guidelines and all relevant COVID-19 protocols. Member companies are also asked to ensure that all their employees are fully informed of the utmost importance of complying with any site or facility specific COVID- 19 protocols.
Most of our member companies are within in the essential services category and it is important that they continue to work to keep the lights on and the economy moving. However, in many cases there are many administrative and back-office functions within our members that can be delivered remotely. We therefore encourage our member companies to, wherever possible, implement work from home policies. With the right systems in place, employees working from home can be equally as productive as workers in the office and pose far lower levels of risk for COVID-19 transmission.
The Energy Chamber Secretariat has continued to maintain work from home policies since April 2020 and only essential front office staff in the Learning Centre are routinely at the office, in order to be able to continue to issue PLEA safety assessments and passes for essential energy sector workers.
The Energy Chamber also urges all members to encourage their employees who are eligible for the vaccination during the current phase to please get vaccinated.
Members are encouraged to visit the www.energy.tt for further details of our C19 policies and procedures.
