The Minister of Energy and Energy Industries and Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, the Honourable Stuart R. Young M.P.; had an early morning meeting with the CEO and Managing Director of Woodside, Australia Ms. Meg O'Neil today, Wednesday 10th November 2021.
Woodside is currently going through the legal and regulatory process to merge with BHP with respect to BHP's Petroleum assets which would include BHP's interests in Trinidad and Tobago.
Minister Young in this inaugural meeting with Ms. O'Neil of Woodside used the opportunity to introduce Trinidad and Tobago and to provide a contextual background of our energy sector in particular the gas sector. Minister Young provided information on Trinidad and Tobago's LNG and petrochemical industries and invited Ms. O'Neil to visit Trinidad and Tobago at her earliest convenience.
Ms. O'Neil provided information on Woodside's business and in particular its gas and LNG operations in Australia as well as its intentions to expand globally.
The Minister in turn provided Woodside with some insight into the potential and possibilities for the BHP/ Woodside merged entity in Trinidad and Tobago, as he encouraged the continued pursuit of deep-water exploration.
Minister Young and Ms. O'Neil agreed to continue communicating going forward and both individuals expressed an interest in being able to physically meet in the not too distant future.
Also participating in the meeting was Mr. Graham Dodds, Vice President, Government Relations, Woodside.
