During the recent October Regional Hydrogen Congress for Latin America and the Caribbean, Trinidad and Tobago’s New Hydrogen Profile was highlighted in several areas.
The first T&T highlight was a “Spotlight on T&T” panel, that focused the regional attendees on the low carbon hydrogen-related work being developed locally public and private energy sector over the past few years.
On the panel, representing TT’s state energy sector, there was Dr. Vernon Paltoo, the President of the National Energy Company of T&T, who spoke to the on-going T&T Hydrogen Market Study being performed by KBR, and funded by the IDB – both of whom were also represented on the panel, by Ms. Sharmila Jugessar and Mr. Christiaan Ghisler, respectively. Mr. Ghisler was the panel moderator.
Representing TT’s private energy sector entrepreneurship was Mr. Philip Julien, the Chairman of Kenesjay Green, which created the NewGen Energy Project, T&T’s pioneering industrial scale low carbon hydrogen project. NewGen has been developed by KGL since 2020 and is now developing final commercial arrangements as it progresses into the FEED and EPC phases of development.
Also participating on the panel was Mr. Thibault Menage, the VP of HDF Caribbean, whose parent company HDF Energy of France, recently acquired 70% of the NewGen Project.
Together, this esteemed panel highlighted the compelling picture of the possibilities, potential and next steps towards realising a significant energy transition within the Latin American and Caribbean Region, located in Point Lisas, Trinidad.
The second T&T highlight during the Congress was the occasion where Mr. Julien was presented with the 1st Annual Award as the Regional Hydrogen Energy Leader MVP (Most Valuable Person). This award was granted based on Mr. Julien’s regional work in championing new hydrogen initiatives, including both the NewGen Project, and the support provided by KGL to the island of Dominica, in helping them visualise and realise their own green hydrogen economy future.
It is worth noting that Mr. Julien has served as both a Chamber Board Member, as well as its Board Champion for the Chamber’s Renewable and Energy Efficiency Sub-Committee.
