Tiger Tanks is the first private sector company in T&T to complete an extensive GHG inventory and mitigation assessment. Over the past few months, the company has partnered with the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) to conduct the assessment. This project allows Tiger Tanks to identify key emission sources and equips the company with the tools needed to implement targeted strategies for reducing those emissions.

Using the IPCC 2006 guidelines and best international practices, UTT was able to quantify Tiger Tanks’ emissions and provide an indicative roadmap for reducing their carbon footprint. This partnership highlights the role of academia in supporting industry as we work toward creating a more sustainable future.

The project was executed by experts at UTT including Dr. Dillon Ramsook, Prof. Donnie Boodlal and Prof. Rean Maharaj. Tiger Tanks Trinidad is the largest supplier of cargo carrying equipment in the region, supplying major operators. The company also provides waste management and oil spill response services.

UTT has conducted other assessments on four maritime ports across the island. These assessments also align with Trinidad and Tobago’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement, which aims to reduce emissions by 15% by 2030.

The data and strategies developed through this project can serve as a model for other companies, encouraging them to follow suit.
