‘The emphasis of any southern group ….must necessarily be on the promotion …. of the prosperity of the south. By that I mean it should fill not a passive role, merely seeing that things work smoothly in the south, but an active role, in the improvement of the economy of the south and incidentally of the whole island.’ Robert C. Montano
The Chairman, Board of Directors and Executive Office of the Energy Chamber of Trinidad and Tobago are extremely saddened by the passing of Robert C. Montano. We are indebted to Bobby since his pioneering spirit and futuristic vision led to the establishment of our predecessor, the South Trinidad Chamber of Industry and Commerce, which was conceptualised by a group of businessmen led by Bobby Montano in the 1950’s. Mr. Montano also played a monumental role in the development of the Point Lisas Industrial Estate which has impacted the economic and social well-being of Trinidad and Tobago.
Trinidad and Tobago’s reputation as a major gas producing province is in no small way linked to the foresight and drive of Mr. Montano.
More recently, we were very grateful for the privilege of having Mr. Montano join in the celebration of our 50th and 60th anniversary. These events allowed us to document key events of his life in relation to the story of both the South Trinidad Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the Point Lisas Industrial Estate.
We pay homage to Robert C. Montano, acknowledging his humility and passion for his community and recognising his prodigious contribution to the current landscape of Trinidad and Tobago.
