The National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (NGC) has signed a Gas Sales Contract (GSC) with local cement manufacturer, Trinidad Cement Limited (TCL). This agreement will govern the sale of natural gas to TCL and represents an important step forward for both companies after an extended period of negotiations. TCL has been one of NGC’s longest-standing customers for over 40 years. The conclusion of this GSC signals NGC’s commitment to the local manufacturing sector and bodes well for infrastructural development in Trinidad and Tobago and the region.

The downstream contractor labour force is predominantly male, with just twelve percent of the labour force being female in 2021. Over the pandemic period the number of females in the contractor labour force fell even more sharply than the number of males. During 2019, the last full pre-pandemic year, the percent of female workers was 14% or over 2,000 female workers. This fell by almost 50% by 2021, when there were just over 1,000 female workers in the contractor labour force, compared to a drop of 38% for the male labour force in the same period.
