Speaker Bios

Roy Shyamnarain
Tax lawyer and Managing Director

Key experience: international and local taxation, offshore oil and gas, mining, M&A and Corporate law.

Roy is a graduate of Leiden University in the Netherlands since October 1984 and holds a Masters in Tax Law and a Bachelor in Dutch Law. He has additionally completed a 3 year’s post-graduate training as Tax Inspector at the Training Institute of the Ministry of Finance in The Hague, Netherlands. Roy has worked for 13 years as an Inspector of Corporate Tax in the Netherlands. After returning to Suriname in 1997 he has held several positions, among which founding partner with another local tax consulting firm, president of the Supervisory Board of a local bank, of counsel advisor to the Minister of Finance in Suriname on issues related with tax policy and tax legislation and was further involved in negotiations regarding several large investments in the Suriname oil and gas and mining industry. Roy has extensive experience in the oil and gas and mining industry in Suriname and has worked with several major international companies in   Suriname oil and gas and mining. Furthermore he is an expert in Corporate law and Contract law. Roy is a frequent participant in international mining and oil and gas conferences and seminars. He is also regularly sharing his knowledge and experience with the general public through presentations, articles and interviews on taxation issues and issues regarding investments in the mining and oil and gas industry in Suriname. Roy currently is President of the Suriname Tax Advisors Association (SFB) and a Rotarian with Rotary Club Paramaribo Residence. 

Consuelo-Andrea Denz
Tax lawyer

Key experience: international and local taxation, telecommunication, shipping and payroll services.

Consuelo-Andrea Denz, is a graduate of Katholieke Universiteit Brabant in the Netherlands since June 2001. She holds a Masters in Tax Law. After having worked for several years in the Netherlands as a tax consultant with a Big 4 firm, she moved to Suriname, were she currently is a partner with Shyamnarain Associates. Her client portfolio includes telecommunication, international shipping, insurance and oil and gas.

Dean Soerel

Warsha Goerdayal

Warsha is a graduate of Utrecht University in the Netherlands, since January 2008. She holds a Masters in International Tax law. Rachel Draaijer
ACCA Accounting and Financial Reporting Specialist

Key experience: preparation of Financial Statements in accordance with IFRS or GAAP; assistance in  system implementation, process improvement and adoption of new accounting standards.

Rachel holds certificates in Accounting and Financial Reporting of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and Markus Verbeek/Praehep in the Netherlands. Before joining Shyamnarain Associates she has worked for several years with accounting firms in the Netherlands and Suriname.
