The Energy Chamber of Trinidad and Tobago is encouraged by the recent meeting between the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Her Excellency Delcy Rodríguez Gómez, and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, the Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar S.C. MP. The discussions, held at the Permanent Mission of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to the United Nations during the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, mark a significant step forward for regional cooperation.
Our two nations are deeply intertwined, not only geographically, historically, and socially, but also through our shared energy futures. The Energy Chamber strongly advocates for the continued strengthening of these bilateral ties to establish a robust framework for cooperative energy development on both sides of the border.
We welcome the leaders' mutual agreement on a joint work agenda designed to strengthen cross-border exchange. This comprehensive agenda spans critical areas including trade, energy, security, disaster risk management, environmental protection, agriculture, tourism, air connectivity, and culture. By reaffirming their commitment to friendship, trust, and good neighborliness, both nations are creating tangible opportunities for development and well-being, ultimately contributing to the broader peace, stability, and prosperity of the Caribbean.
The synergies between our respective energy sectors present immense potential. While Venezuela possesses substantial natural resources, Trinidad and Tobago offers a ready market for commodities like crude oil and natural gas. Furthermore, Trinidad and Tobago’s developed energy services sector holds the specialized skills and technical expertise necessary to assist in the restoration and optimization of Venezuela’s critical energy infrastructure.
