The Energy Chamber is extremely pleased to hear the news that Trinidad & Tobago and Venezuela have signed an agreement to work on the Dragon field in Venezuelan waters. The Energy Chamber congratulates the Government of Trinidad & Tobago for delivering this agreement, and in particular the Minister of Energy, the Honourable Stuart Young, who has worked tirelessly to secure the agreement in a very challenging environment.
This marks an important milestone in the plans to import natural gas by pipeline from Venezuela to Trinidad & Tobago, for onward processing and export to international markets as LNG and petrochemicals. Successful delivery of this initiative will help supply much needed energy, fertilizers and petrochemicals and assist global energy and food security.
In 2022, the Energy Chamber released a six-point plan to secure new natural gas supplies and maximise exports from Trinidad & Tobago: 2022 – 2030. One of the major points highlighted the need to “Secure cross and across border supplies”. The signing yesterday speaks directly to this and is a clear step in the right direction.
