Paria Fuel Trading Company Limited (Paria) has announced its achievement of attaining International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC), a critical step toward integrating with the European market’s stringent environmental standards. This certification not only reinforces Paria’s commitment to sustainability and transparency but also highlights the broader economic and environmental benefits for Trinidad, the Caribbean region, and their energy exports.

It also further supports our commitment to the Memorandum of Understanding with National Energy Corporation of Trinidad & Tobago Limited (National Energy), Trinidad & Tobago and National Petroleum Marketing Company Limited (NP) to conduct a feasibility study that will evaluate the potential to supply low-carbon marine fuels (such as methanol) to ships operating on trade routes throughout the Caribbean.

As Europe moves toward stricter climate policies and a green energy transition, the ISCC certification positions Paria as a key player in supplying certified sustainable fuels to this highdemand market. With increasing European emphasis on traceability, sustainability, and chain of custody control, Paria’s ISCC certification ensures it can meet these expectations, paving the way for growth and long-term partnerships in the European market.

Why ISCC Matters for Paria, Trinidad and Tobago, and the Caribbean:

Market Access and Competitiveness: Achieving ISCC certification opens the door for Paria to compete in the European market, where sustainable sourcing is not just preferred but often mandated by policy. With certified fuels, Paria can secure long-term contracts with European buyers, strengthening Trinidad’s position as a reliable and sustainable energy exporter.

Economic Growth in the Caribbean: As one of the leading energy players in the region, Paria’s ISCC certification sets a benchmark for other Caribbean energy companies. This move encourages the entire region to adopt more sustainable practices, creating opportunities for local growth, new investments, and job creation linked to the renewable energy and sustainable fuel sectors.

Environmental Leadership: From a global perspective, Trinidad and the Caribbean can play a pivotal role in the global energy transition by supplying certified, low-carbon fuels to Europe. ISCC certification allows Paria to lead the charge in environmental responsibility, showing that even traditional energy markets can shift toward greener, more sustainable operations while still being economically viable.

Building Trust with European Buyers: The European market increasingly demands transparency, especially in high-carbon industries like fuel. With ISCC certification, Paria provides full traceability, ensuring that every step from production to delivery meets the rigorous sustainability standards expected by European clients. This not only builds trust but also establishes Paria as a partner of choice for environmentally conscious buyers.

By obtaining ISCC certification, Paria is uniquely positioned to strengthen its relationships with European partners, contribute to the Caribbean’s economic resilience, and lead in sustainable energy practices that benefit both local and global markets.

“Achieving ISCC certification is more than just meeting a standard; it’s a strategic move that positions Paria and Trinidad to play a leading role in the global energy transition. Our ability to offer certified sustainable fuels to the European market shows our commitment to both economic growth in the Caribbean and environmental responsibility,” said Mr. Mushtaq Mohammed, General Manager, Paria.
