Philip Mshelbila, Managing Director of Nigeria LNG Limited, has been elected Secretary General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF). Mshelbila assumes the position from outgoing Secretary General Mohamed Hamel, who led the organization through a period of significant growth and development.
The GECF represents the world’s leading gas exporting countries and is an important and powerful platform for dialogue to enhance the stability and security of global gas supply and demand.
Mshelbila said on a post on social media, “It is an honour to be chosen for the position - and to fly the flag for Nigeria - by the representatives of the Forum’s 20 members at its ministerial meeting.I am also delighted that Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, our Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), was elected as President of the 2026 GECF Ministerial Meeting.”
“I have been a staunch champion of the transformative ability of natural gas to change lives and to accelerate progress in Nigeria for many years. I will carry this same conviction and commitment to my role at GECF, promoting the positive power of gas as a bridge for the whole world to create a more sustainable future.” he added.
Mshelbila is a former CEO of Atlantic in Trinidad and Tobago and former member of the board of directors of the Energy Chamber of Trinidad and Tobago.
Former Secretary General of the GECF, Mohamed Hamel delivered a keynote address at the T&T Energy Conference in 2024.
