Valaris has completed a two-well workover and completion campaign for bp Trinidad and Tobago nearly 17 days ahead of schedule, bringing the company’s latest offshore assignment in Trinidad to an early close.
Offshore Energy reported that the 2001-built Valaris 249 jack-up rig finished the 100-day Angelin campaign ahead of its planned completion date. The work began during the first quarter of 2026 after the rig completed an earlier contract with another operator offshore Trinidad.
Edward Cozier, Rig Manager at Valaris, said the result reflected detailed planning and close coordination throughout the campaign.
“I am extremely proud of the Valaris 249 team’s performance throughout the Angelin campaign. This success was made possible through rigorous planning, clear communication, and close coordination among all parties involved,” he said.
The Angelin field, located about 60 kilometres off Trinidad’s southeast coast, is one of bp Trinidad and Tobago’s offshore gas developments. Valaris did not disclose additional details about the work completed during the campaign.
Valaris 249 is a LeTourneau Super Gorilla Class jack-up rig designed for shallow-water drilling and well intervention work. It accommodates up to 120 personnel and has a maximum drilling depth of 35,000 feet.
The rig will now undergo around 60 days of planned maintenance before beginning a one-year contract with Shell in October. Valaris previously said the contract is expected to add about US$66 million to its contracted revenue backlog and includes three priced options of approximately 50 days each.
The latest campaign follows Valaris’ expansion in Trinidad and Tobago earlier this year with the opening of a new office in Port of Spain. The company said the office will support its offshore operations and strengthen its presence in one of the region’s established energy markets.
