Predator moves forward with CO2 recovery system in partnership with Massy Gas Products

Predator Oil & Gas Holdings Plc (Predator), the Jersey based Oil and Gas Company with operations in Trinidad, Morocco and Ireland, has announced that the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries has approved the use of the CO2 recovery system, installed and commissioned by Predator and Massy Gas Products, associated with the CO2 Pilot Project at the FRAM Exploration Gathering Station #4 in the Inniss-Trinity field.

Lightsource reveals details about the renewable energy projects in T&T

In pursuit of achieving a target of 10% renewable energy in T&T, two solar projects will be built in Trinidad during the period 2021-2022. The developers of these projects are a consortium comprised of bpTT, Shell and Lightsource bp. The consortium is working with the government of Trinidad and Tobago to build the two projects which are located in Brechin Castle and Orange Grove. The projects are 92 megawatts and 20 megawatts respectively and will be among the largest in the region.

Ortoire block continues to deliver

Touchstone Exploration has once again confirmed the existence of natural gas deposits in the Ortoire Block in south east Trinidad. Touchstone’s latest well in its exploration drilling campaign, the Cascadura Deep-1 well, again discovered significant hydrocarbon accumulations. The company has stated that wireline logs indicated natural gas pay totaling approximately 1,315 net feet in four unique thrust sheets in the Herrera sands.

The Energy Chamber fully supports the privatization of the Pointe-a-Pierre refinery to put the asset to productive use. The Energy Chamber has been monitoring the recent announcements from both the Government and from the OWTU with respect to the proposal from Patriotic Energies and Technologies Ltd and the decision to re-establish the Evaluation Committee to review the latest proposal. We continue to encourage all stakeholders to move expeditiously to find a solution to complete the sale of the assets to a private-sector entity so they will be able to generate value for Trinidad & Tobago.

US gives ENI green light to offload crude oil from Nabarima

Italian-based multinational oil company, ENI has announced that they have received a green light from the United States’ authorities to offload crude oil from the Nabarima FSO, without breaking the international sanctions regime. ENI will then be able to repair the vessel. Approval was received from the US authorities on Thursday 29th October, 2020.

The United States remains concerned by the potential risk to safety and environment posed by the Venezuelan-flagged vessel, Nabarima, in the Gulf of Paria. We strongly support immediate actions to bring the Nabarima up to international safety standards and avoid possible environmental harm, which could negatively impact not only the Venezuelan people but also those in nearby countries. PdVSA has a responsibility to take action to avoid an environmental disaster in Venezuelan waters.

Let me start by thanking my fellow Board members, and by extension the wider membership of the Energy Chamber, for the trust that you have placed in me. The Energy Chamber is an important institution with a long and distinguished history, and I am honoured and humbled by the opportunity to lead the organisation. I would like to especially thank Eugene Tiah, who has stepped down today after three years as Chairman and many more as a Board member. Eugene has been an exemplary leader in the energy sector, with a well-deserved reputation for his calm, structured and even-handed approach to difficult situations and in making tough decisions. On behalf of the entire sector thank-you for all your hard work and dedication.

bp Trinidad and Tobago LLC (bpTT) announced the safe start-up of the Galeota expansion project (GEP). The project has been under construction since late 2016 and was started up on 28 September 2020. Its completion is a major milestone for bpTT.

Monday 28th September 2020 saw the inaugural loadout of methanol from the Port of Brighton, La Brea. This cargo of methanol was produced from Caribbean Gas Chemical Limited (CGCL) located at Union Industrial Estate, La Brea, which is an industrial estate owned by National Energy Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (National Energy), a subsidiary of NGC. CGCL, a joint venture enterprise with NGC as one of the equity investors, is a locally registered and operated company formed to oversee the project development stage of the Complex.

Lisas Energy Association (PLEA) has engaged the Trinidad and Tobago Laboratory Accreditation Service (TTLABS), a Department of the Trinidad & Tobago Bureau of Standards (TTBS), to provide auditing services for its Drug and Alcohol Testing Certification Programme. The programme is aimed at improving the reliability of drug and alcohol test results that are offered as proof of sobriety among the contractor workforce.
