The Minister of Energy and Energy Industries and Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, the Honourable Stuart R. Young MP, attended a contract signing ceremony between NGC and bpTT. The Honourable Minister of Energy and Energy Industries congratulated both NGC and bpTT on negotiating, in a collaborative manner, a new gas supply contract which secures future gas supply to the National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago (NGC), this gas will be utilized for the downstream petrochemical sector and electricity production.

bp Trinidad and Tobago (bpTT) today announces the arrival of the Joe Douglas Jack Up rig. The drilling rig arrived in Trinidad on 30 August 2022 at Chaguaramas. The rig will be proceeding to our Mango drilling site – situated approximately 48km off the Galeota Point on Trinidad’s southeast coast – to commence our drilling programme in early October.

In last year’s national budget statement, the Minister of Finance announced that the Government would undertake a comprehensive review of upstream fiscal terms. Speaking shortly after the budget announcement at the Energy Chamber’s annual policy review forum, the Minister of Energy announced that the review would be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2022. As of July 2022, this review has not been completed.

The NGC Group (The Group) of Companies’ financial performance for 2021, demonstrated a significant turnaround in profitability, as it successfully navigated the global energy landscape during that year. The Group recorded a profit of TT$2.6B for the financial year ended 31 December 2021. This profit is a far cry when compared to the loss of TT$2.1B in 2020. The Group’s revenues of TT$23.6B were TT$12.2B greater than revenues of TT$11.4B for 2020.

The National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (NGC) and NewGen Energy Limited (NewGen) have deepened their partnership to cooperate on the enabling of a sustainable hydrogen economy for the energy sector of Trinidad and Tobago. On August 4 th 2022, both companies signed a non-binding Heads of Agreement (HOA), which outlines the framework for the establishment of Binding Definitive Agreements between the relevant parties, once acceptable terms can be reached.
