More than a decade ago, the Energy Chamber established a Green Energy Day as part of the T&T Energy Conference. Since then, interest in renewable energy and decarbonisation has grown substantially. So much so, that in 2017 we created a separate two day event called the Clean Energy Conference. The conference continued to grow and the name changed to the Caribbean Sustainable Energy Conference to ensure that we covered the Caribbean and discussed the way that the energy sector can become an active player in establishing a sustainable energy future; one which meets the demands of the future while simultaneously lowering the carbon footprint.
In 2025, there are a lot of uncertainties in the energy sector and those bleed into the future of investments in renewable energy and low carbon technologies. The theme selected for the conference is therefore ‘Adapting and Recalibrating’. The Conference will explore the implications of current global trends for the Caribbean region and how the region should adapt and recalibrate policies and programmes in the evolving global investment climate.
The keynote speaker at the conference will be Senator the Honourable Lisa R. Cummins, Minister of Energy and Business Development (Barbados). We also have presentations and speakers from around the region and international experts contributing to the topics.
Over the next two days we’ll have discussions focused on themes such as Regional Electricity Integration, Global Energy Investment Shifts, Developing a Low Carbon Maritime Sector, Decarbonization of the Hard to Abate Sectors, Increasing Energy Efficiency and Wind Energy.
We have speakers from T&T, Barbados, Grenada, Martinque, Europe, USA and Latin America.
A new feature of the conference is a working session on innovation and technology where we will have representatives from the University of the West Indies guide delegates through a tabletop exercise and then report on innovations and research which will be necessary to drive the energy transition in years to come.
As is customary with this event, we have a Day 3 Tour. This year we will be visiting the Piarco Solar Park. Delegates will get firsthand opportunities to learn about the construction of a solar project and gain insight into the operations of this type of facility. The purpose of the tour is to give delegates access to energy assets and learn from those who are already engaged in sustainable energy.
If you’re interested in climate change or the energy sector, this conference provides a pathway for everyone to understand the linkages between the two and how to improve energy security and reduce the environmental impact of the sector
What we hope to achieve through this event is to bring to the forefront the factors that affect our region the most. While there is uncertainty in the industry, the Caribbean can set its own agenda to develop robust energy systems that meet our needs.
