The Energy Chamber of Trinidad and Tobago stands in solidarity with Guyana following the capsizing of the MV Barima off the coast. The incident occurred late on the night of July 18 at approximately 11:00 p.m., while the ferry was making its scheduled journey from Georgetown to Port Kaituma.
The vessel was carrying 133 people, comprising 116 passengers and a 17-member crew.
A large-scale search and rescue operation is currently underway, involving the Guyanese Coast Guard, private aircraft, and civilian fishing vessels, covering an expanded search area of over 1,000 square kilometers. At this time approximately half of the persons on board have been rescued.
During this difficult time, the Energy Chamber of T&T remains in close contact with the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) and has formally offered its support to assist with the ongoing recovery and relief efforts.
