The Honourable Stuart R. Young S.C. M.P. Minister of Energy and Energy Industries and Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, along with Ms. Sandra Fraser, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries met with Methanex executives, Mr. Dean Richardson, Senior Vice President-Financial Officer of Methanex; and Mr. Colin Bain, Managing Director & President at Methanex Corporation. The meeting took place on 2nd December 2024 at the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries’ International Waterfront Complex, Head Office, Port-of-Spain.
Mr. Dean Richardson, Senior Vice President-Financial Officer of Methanex acknowledged the accelerated positive outlook for Trinidad and Tobago’s upstream sector as Minister Young spoke on the Government negotiations which laid the ground work for future developments such as Mento and Cypre which are both expected to be online in 2025; the Manatee Project which is expected to be online in 2027 as well as the cross-border initiatives.
In keeping with Trinidad and Tobago’s commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries has been actively engaged with the downstream energy sector, to support the implementation of Trinidad and Tobago’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC). In this regard, Mr. Colin Bain, Managing Director & President at Methanex Corporation provided an update on the company’s efforts to reduce the carbon intensity of its operations.
Minister Young reiterated that the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago continues to work closely with energy sector stakeholders to secure Trinidad and Tobago’s energy future.
