Petrobras has approved the start of an EPC tender for a new diesel hydrotreating unit at its Presidente Getúlio Vargas Refinery, or Repar, in Paraná, Brazil.
The proposed unit would process up to 5,500 cubic metres of S-10 diesel per day, according to Petrobras, with the contract to be tendered under an engineering, procurement and construction model. The project, called Repar Novo HDT de Médios, sits within the portfolio of investment opportunities Petrobras is evaluating under its 2026-2030 Business Plan.
Petrobras was careful to frame the tender as one step among several, not a green light for construction. The project still has to clear technical and economic assessments as well as the company's investment governance process before any final decision is made.
Repar is one of three refineries where Petrobras is pursuing similar hydrotreating projects, alongside the Alberto Pasqualini Refinery, or Refap, and the Paulínia Refinery, or Replan. Combined, the three could add roughly 70,000 barrels per day to Petrobras' S-10 diesel production capacity, the company said.
Repar itself has an installed processing capacity of 33,000 cubic metres per day, or 207,563 barrels per day, and produces diesel, gasoline, LPG, coke, asphalt, fuel oils, aviation kerosene, propylene and marine oils. Around 85% of its output supplies Paraná, Santa Catarina, southern São Paulo and Mato Grosso do Sul, according to Petrobras.
Petrobras has not disclosed a cost estimate for the new unit or said when a final investment decision might be made.
