Energy Chamber saddened by the passing of Brian Baptiste

The Board of Directors of the the Energy Chamber of Trinidad and Tobago is saddened to learn of the sudden and unexpected passing of Brian Baptiste.

Brian Baptiste held a senior management position in EOG Resources and was in charge of project coordination until he retired. After his retirement in October 2018, Brian was appointed a Director of the company in November 2018.

Much of EOG’s success in T&T can be attributed to the work that Brian did, during his time at the company.

Brian often spoke at Energy Chamber events including at the Trinidad and Tobago Energy Conference and the Upstream Supply Chain Forum. Brian always delivered exciting and informative presentations that were well received by the industry for being thorough, detailed and laced with humour.

This is a great loss to the energy industry in T&T. We wish to extend our sincerest condolences to his family and those who worked with him.

Energy Chamber welcomes Government’s announcement on vaccination of public servants and workplace safe zones

Energy Chamber welcomes Government’s announcement on vaccination of public servants and workplace safe zones

The Energy Chamber of Trinidad & Tobago welcomes the announcement from the Government that all public service workplaces will become safe zones and that all employees paid by the State will need to be vaccinated against COVID-19.  This is a sensible and logical policy decision that we fully support.

Jointly with other major business associations, the Energy Chamber has called for a national policy framework that would give employers the freedom to implement mandatory workplace vaccination policies when their risk assessments show that this was necessary to protect employees’ health.  Many members of the Energy Chamber have already gone through consultation processes and implemented workplace vaccination policies for both employees and contractors who enter their facilities.  The Energy Chamber has provided advice to member companies on the processes that they need to follow to be able to mandate vaccinations for their workplaces.  As noted by the Honourable Prime Minister, these workplace policies have helped boost the vaccination rates in the private-sector.

The new policy announced by the Prime Minister will strengthen the ability of our members to take the necessary measures needed to protect their employees, contractors and by extension their families and the communities in which they live.  Protecting the health and safety of all workers in the energy industry remains a core value of the Energy Chamber of Trinidad & Tobago.

Over the almost two-years that we have been dealing with the impact of the pandemic, the Joint Chambers have attempted to support the country’s response. As a collective and in partnership with other civic organisations, we have run vaccinations sites, developed and funded pro-vaccination campaigns and proposed various policy measures to assist in containing the spread of the virus while maintaining a reasonable level of economic activity.
