‘Regardless of the challenges, you have to persevere until you find the right solution. Look at the job holistically, understand the value-added and also the entire lifecycle of a project as opposed to your role in isolation.’
Indar Boodoo is known in the oil and gas sector for his leadership at Analyser Services Trinidad Limited (ASTL) and is now an industry veteran with over 30 years of extensive experience, starting his career as a teacher before transitioning to the industry as a refinery technician. His transition from educator to industry expert reflects a legacy of mentorship, a trait he attributes to growing up as the eldest of his siblings.
His career has consistently revolved around analytical instruments, from the laboratory to the refinery, and ultimately, to managing ASTL—a company dedicated to analysers and their support systems. ASTL was founded in 1998 as a part of the Norsk Analyse international group of companies headquartered in Scandinavia. The company began with a core team of three: Indar Boodoo, Sharmila Deonarine, and Anslem Sakawat. Under Indar’s visionary leadership marked by dedication and sacrifice, the company has grown from managing a single maintenance contract to becoming a comprehensive sales and service provider. Today, ASTL operates as distributors and system integrators, representing international analyser brands both locally and regionally.
While experience has been a tremendous asset in his career, he acknowledged his team members who have provided the support required for him and the company to gain the leadership status which they now enjoy.
Ivar Olsen, founder of Norsk Analyse has been a trusted mentor since ASTL’s inception and although now retired, is a respected authority in analytical technologies and sample conditioning systems. He continues to be Indar’s trusted advisor and friend. Another foundational team member is Sharmila Deonarine, who has worked alongside him from inception and has played a vital role in ASTL’s growth and sustainability. Indar also acknowledged Carolyn Bickramdass, “a star pupil” who has been able to carry forward the technical expertise which allows ASTL to continue delivering exemplary service.
As an industry leader who started off in a classroom setting, learning and tutoring continues to define Indar Boodoo’s life.
In ending his brief chat with us, he reflects that ‘the successful completion of a project and the satisfaction of a client are his key drivers. However, what truly motivates me is the opportunity to educate the next generation of professionals, ensuring they not only understand the technical operation and service of analyser systems, but also grasp their vital role within the entire process plant.”
This commitment to knowledge-sharing, collaboration and quality service continues to define his leadership, his ethos and that of ASTL, a company that has been the bedrock of his professional life.
