NGC expands energy portfolio with additional 20% participating interest in Block 3(a)

Continuing its strategic focus to develop a world-class energy portfolio, The National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (NGC), through its wholly-owned subsidiary NGC Caribbean Investments Limited (NCIL), is pleased to announce the acquisition of Heritage Petroleum Company Limited’s Non-Operated Joint Venture (NOJV) participating interest in Block 3(a), off Trinidad’s east coast. As a result of this acquisition, NGC has increased its participating interest in the block from 11.41% to 31.54%. NGC will now have access to additional equity crude, which will bolster its marketing and trading portfolio. As announced in July 2020, NGC previously executed a Gas Sales Contract with BHP to purchase 100% of the gas produced from Block 3(a) to add to its existing portfolio of natural gas supply.

The Board of Woodside has appointed acting CEO Meg O’Neill as the company’s Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director.

Ms O’Neill succeeds Peter Coleman who retired from Woodside in June 2021. The appointment is effective immediately.

The study found that the production of green hydrogen and green ammonia using renewable ‎energy is technically feasible at scale in Australia. Its findings also support bp’s conviction that, with ‎its vast potential solar and wind resources, existing infrastructure and proximity to large, long-term ‎markets, Western Australia is an ideal place to develop large scale renewable energy assets that ‎can in turn produce green hydrogen and/or green ammonia for domestic and export markets.

Frontera Energy Corporation and CGX Energy announced the spudding of the Kawa-1 exploration well, offshore Guyana.

The Kawa-1 well is located in the northeast quadrant of the Corentyne block, approximately 200 kilometers offshore from Georgetown. The water depth is approximately 355 meters (1174 ft) and the expected total depth of the Kawa-1 well is 6,685 meters (21,932 ft).

12 sites identified in Trinidad and Tobago for GCCA+ Solar Photovoltaic (PV) installations

Trinidad and Tobago’s transition to renewable energy was given a boost today with the announcement of the 12 finalist sites chosen to receive installations of small-scale roof-mounted Solar Photovoltaic (PV) solar panels, capable of supplying energy for power generation. The announcement was made by the Global Climate Change Alliance Plus (GCCA+) Project Team at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Trinidad and Tobago. These installations form part of a EUR 2.4 M project entitled ‘Support to the Implementation of Trinidad and Tobago’s Nationally Determined Contribution’, designed to assist the country on a low carbon path, and increase its climate resilience in keeping with its stated targets and committments under the 2015 Paris Agreement.

There is positive news for the downstream sector as The National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (NGC) signed a Consolidated Gas Supply Contract (CGSC) with Methanol Holdings (Trinidad) Limited (MHTL), part of the Proman family of companies. This contract will support operations at the MHTL Methanol Complex, which includes the mega-methanol M5 plant, one of the world’s most efficient low carbon methanol producers. Where in the past each of MHTL’s plants was supplied under individual gas sales contracts, the CGSC is a single contract which will govern the sale of gas to the entire complex. This new approach will streamline and enhance contract administration, relationship management, logistics and planning, and give flexibility to MHTL to manage its supply in the most efficient manner.
