bp has announced an oil and gas discovery at the Bumerangue prospect in the deepwater offshore Brazil.
bp drilled exploration well 1-BP-13-SPS at the Bumerangue block, located in the Santos Basin, 404 kilometres (218 nautical miles) from Rio de Janeiro, in a water depth of 2,372 metres. The well was drilled to a total depth of 5,855 metres.

Recently, SLB acquired ChampionX, Chevron acquired Hess Corporation and here in Trinidad, Perenco acquired the assets of Woodside Energy. In the local energy services sector, we also saw TOSL Engineering purchasing Ansa Technologies.
Last week, a pair of global energy services companies agreed on a merger creating a leader in energy services, according to the companies – Subsea7 and Saipem. Both major companies are active in the region with projects in Guyana, Suriname and Trinidad & Tobago.
Gasoline prices vary from country to country because each country adopts their own policies for setting the price at the pump, including price regulation, subsidies and taxes. In many countries prices also fluctuate over time, in response to changing international commodity prices.
In the Caribbean region, the price of gasoline varies significantly from country to country, with the most expensive being more than double the cheapest. The country with the cheapest gasoline in the region in July 2025 is Guyana, while the most expensive is Barbados. Trinidad and Tobago sits in the third position, when arranged from cheapest to most expensive.

Last week, Perenco announced that they completed the acquisition of Woodside’s producing oil and gas assets in Trinidad & Tobago. This move, along with their acquisition of bpTT’s Cashima, Amherstia, Flamboyant and Immortelle (CAFI) fields earlier this year, solidifies the company as a major oil and gas producer in T&T. In fact, based on Q1 2025 production data it is estimated that Perenco will now be the 2nd largest producer of oil and gas in terms of barrel of oil equivalence, second to bpTT and is followed by Shell and EOG Resources.

Last week, Chevron announced that it completed the acquisition of Hess Corporation. A major hiccup for the acquisition was overcome after winning a landmark legal battle against larger rival ExxonMobil. The arbitration case was centered on Hess's 30 percent interest in the Stabroek Block, offshore Guyana where Exxon holds 45 percent and is the operator of the block while CNOOC holds 25 percent.

SLB has announced that it has closed its acquisition of ChampionX Corporation. Under the terms of the agreement, ChampionX shareholders received 0.735 shares of SLB common stock in exchange for each ChampionX share. With the closing of the transaction, former ChampionX shareholders now own approximately 9% of SLB’s outstanding shares of common stock.

Touchstone Exploration through its wholly owned Trinidadian subsidiary, recently completed a 100% acquisition of the share capital of Shell Trinidad Central Block Limited. The acquired entity, now renamed Touchstone Trinidad Central Block Ltd., holds a 65 percent operating interest in the onshore Central Block exploration and production licence. Heritage Petroleum Company Limited holds the remaining 35 percent participating interest. The Central Block asset includes four producing natural gas wells and a gas processing facility.
