Staatsolie optimistic about the offshore discoveries in Suriname

Ever since Exxon and their partners began their string of unprecedented exploration success offshore Guyana, industry watchers have kept a close eye on the neighbouring deepwater blocks offshore Suriname.   At the beginning of 2020, Apache and Total made the long-awaited announcement of a significant oil discovery at the Maka Central-1 in Suriname’s Block 58.  This was much welcomed news for Suriname and for its state-owned oil company, Staatsolie.

Apache Corporation and Total S.A. today announced a significant oil discovery at the Maka Central-1 well drilled offshore Suriname on Block 58. The well was drilled using the drillship Noble Sam Croft with Apache as operator holding a 50% working interest and Total holding a 50% working interest.

I was very pleased and a bit surprised to hear about the “light bulb swap” project announced in the Minister of Finance’s national budget speech. Montano.   We are indebted to Bobby since his pioneering spirit and futuristic vision led to the establishment of our predecessor, the South Trinidad Chamber of Industry and Commerce, which was conceptualised by a group of businessmen led by Bobby Montano in the 1950’s.  Mr. Montano also played a monumental role in the development of the Point Lisas Industrial Estate which has impacted the economic and social well-being of Trinidad and Tobago

Touchstone announced final production test results for the Coho-1 well on the Ortoire exploration block. According to the company, flow and build-up test results suggest an Absolute Open Flow (AOF) rate of 46.0 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd)  which is equivalent to approximately 7,671 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d).
